PEELS

At Bobbie Charles we offer an extensive range of both Medik8 and Mesoestetic chemical peels to assist with a wide range of skin concerns from fine lines, acne, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Whilst very effective, peels can also be harmful to the skin if not administered correctly.

Our highly skilled therapists will always regard your skin health as number one priority and will never risk it being compromised for the sake of fast tracking your results. You will always receive an in-depth skin consultation with one of our trained therapists at each appointment. During this consult we will work with you to determine the most suitable peel option and treatment plan moving forward.

What is a Skin Peel?

As we age our cell regeneration cycle slows down which can lead to a variety of skin concerns. A peel removes unwanted, damaged, or weakened cells in the layers of the epidermis and encourages living layers of the epidermis (in the basal layer) to produce new, fresh and healthy skin cells. Peels stimulate fibroblast cells within the dermal layer, resulting in increased collagen formulation revealing a refreshed, renewed complexion.

The acids in chemical peels break down the glue called desmosomes in the upper layer of epidermis (the junctions which hold together the skin cells), triggering exfoliation and resurfacing the complexion. Peels stimulate epidermal growth from the basal layer, which replaces damaged cells with more normalised tissues.

Although our chemical peels work on the epidermis, we are also disturbing the dermis to boost the production of more collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, to give a plumper and more youthful appearance.

We complete your peel treatment by applying a hydrating and calming sheet mask by Medik8, which ensures your skin has the best chance of a faster healing process and to minimise excessive peeling. This step is also crucial for minimising any risk of post dehydration and extra redness in the skin. We then get you set up to rest under our Healite II Medical LED light device for an extra healing and anti-aging component. The LED will help speed up any recovery caused by excessive flushing post treatment and will stimulate collagen and elastin, leaving a rejuvenated skin that still has its integrity.

Results:

You will see a reduction of fine lines & wrinkles, age spots, mild scars, and blemishes. You will be left with a smoother skin texture and faded hyperpigmentation, leaving a youthful glowing skin.

Expected Side Effects:

  • Redness post treatment which normally subsides within 2 hours
  • Dry and potential flaking of the skin which may last up to 5 days dependent on the peel strength
  • Blotchy dark areas of the skin where pigmented areas are shedding which may last up to 5 days dependent on the peel strength

Potential Risks:

  • Cold sore flare ups; please use an anti-viral for minimum 3 days prior to your treatment if you are prone to cold sores.
  • Changes in skin colour; a peel can cause treated skin to become darker than normal (hyperpigmentation) or lighter than normal (hypopigmentation). Changes in skin colour are more common in people who have darker skin types and can be permanent. Ensure you are applying a Broad-Spectrum SPF regularly, both before & after your peel to avoid this. We do recommend a Vitamin C and or brightening serum for clients that are prone to pigmentation throughout your treatment plan to avoid this.
  • Burns: this can be a result of not following strict pre care instructions prior to your treatment.

Pre-Treatment Requirements:

  • Prime the skin with Vitamin C & Vitamin A for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment. Research has shown the use of vitamin C & vitamin A prior to and throughout the treatment will maximise results and reduce the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • For acne conditions, you will be required prep for 2-4 weeks and must use Clarity Peptides, as well as vitamin C and A above.
  • For Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI you will be required to prep for 4 weeks and must include Oxy–R Peptides as well as the vitamin C & A.
  • Please use an antiviral if you are prone to cold sores, for a minimum 3 days prior to your treatment.
  • Do not bleach, wax, scrub/exfoliate for 1 week before the peel
  • It’s best you don’t schedule an important event until 1 week after the peel, so you have time to heal.
  • Please discontinue any Vitamin A products 3 days before the peel.
  • Ensure you don’t have sun exposure to the area being treated for 2 weeks prior to your peel & ensure you are applying a Broad-Spectrum SPF daily even if it’s cloudy.

Post-Treatment Requirements:

What to expect in the days following you skin peel?

Day 1: Skin may feel sensitive to heat and touch (like a mild sunburn).
Day 2: Skin may start to feel tight, rough, blotchy and/or dry (Please keep up your water intake and use the correct post care products).
Day 3-5: Skin may start peeling or flaking. This could last anywhere between 3 and 5 days.

For the first 72 hours post treatment, use the recommended post treatment products only:

AM: Calmwise Cleanse, Hydr8 B5 Intense, Vitamin C, Ultimate Recovery Intense (as much as required) and SPF (even if it’s cloudy).
PM: Calmwise Cleanse, Hydr8 B5 Intense, Vitamin A and Ultimate Recovery Intense (as much as required).

  • Avoid self-tanning for one week post peel.
  • Do not expose the skin to the sun or tanning devices.
  • Treat your skin gently (no wash cloths or facial sponges as to not exfoliate the skin).
  • After the 3-5 days return to your regular skin care routine.
  • Do not pick or peel off any dry/flaking skin. Allow it to peel naturally as this could cause scarring.
  • Do not use AHAs, BHAs, topical steroids or physical exfoliants for 1 week following a chemical peel treatment.
  • Ensure you thoroughly sanitise all makeup brushes/sponges and change your pillowcase, so you are not at risk of infection and/or breakout.
  • No excessive exercise, sauna, steam rooms or hot yoga for 24 hours as it will sting the skin, cause irritation & excessive dehydration.
  • Avoid make-up for a minimum of 12 hours post peel. After the 12 hours, wear minimal makeup if required, mineral makeup is recommended. Check out the Youngblood range of cosmetics which is formulated with clean ingredients that won’t cause irritation.

Mesoesthetic Cosmelan Peel:

The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is a unique, multi-ingredient chemical treatment designed to reduce areas of skin discoloration and hyperpigmentation.

In general, light and medium peels cause some discomfort. The discomfort ranges from mild to moderate, depending on your level of tolerance. The most common sensation is stinging whilst the product is on.

Depending on the individual skin concerns being treated we will recommend a tailored treatment plan consisting of anywhere from 3-6 peels at a time followed by a 4-week break to let the skin heal and rejuvenate. During this rejuvenation period we may recommend other treatments to help reach your skin goals. Following the recommended ‘post treatment advice’, and using the recommended ‘at home skincare products’ between visits, will greatly assist you in seeing results faster.

At Bobbie Charles we offer an extensive range of both Medik8 (including Combination, Mandelic, Lactic and Glycolic) and Mesoestetic (Acnelan and Cosmelan) Skin Peels to assist with a wide range of skin concerns.

Skin Peels are unsuitable for clients that are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Depending on the individual skin concerns being treated we recommend treatments be performed at least two weeks apart.

We recommend having these treatments done separately as to avoid causing excess trauma to the skin.

To allow for sufficient healing time, we recommend leaving a minimum of one week between your skin peel appointment and your event to allow time for your skin to heal.

For the first 72 hours post treatment we highly recommend only using a light mineral makeup. We love Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics in the clinic. These products are specifically designed for use post treatment and will even out the skin and provide protection without causing a breakout. Please ensure you thoroughly sanitise all makeup brushes / sponges before using them to apply any products after your treatment.
