Skin Needling

What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling (also known as microneedling) is a minimally invasive antiaging treatment that consists with topical application of a product that has been tailored to your skin concerns whilst safely generating a large number of microchannels (by the use of microneedles) that reach a previously defined depth. We have chosen to use a medical device called the Mpen by Mesoestetic in the clinic due to its proven results and been approved by the TGA. Not all devices are created equal so it’s important that you have an awareness that we are treating you with a results-based device.

This treatment can be done on all parts of the body; some of the most common being face, neck and décolletage, hands, arms, stretchmarks of the body and also on the scalp for hair loss.

The microscopic puncture channels stimulate circulation and the growth of new collagen and elastin. This assists in re-building the skin’s structure and integrity whilst providing versatile correction of many skin conditions. We do use a topical anaesthetic prior to your treatment for patient comfort.

You will see an improvement in acne and stretchmark scarring, textural irregularities, pigmentation and sun damage, reduction in wrinkles and pore size, improved elasticity loss leaving a plumper, rejuvenated and youthful skin.

  • Freckles may temporarily lighten or permanently disappear in treated areas.
  • Slight dehydration of the skin as it is going through the healing phase which last up to 5 days
  • Sensitivity lasting up to 5 days

Potential Risks:

  • Cold sores flare ups; consult your doctor prior to your treatment for an antiviral if you are prone to cold sores
  • Changes in skin colour- This treatment can cause treated skin to become darker than normal (hyperpigmentation) or lighter than normal (hypopigmentation). Changes in skin colour are more common in people who have darker skin types and can be permanent. Ensure you are applying a Broad-Spectrum SPF regularly after your peel to avoid this. We do recommend a Vit C and or brightening serum for clients that are prone to pigmentation throughout your treatment plan to avoid this.
  • Permanent scarring (less than 1% – it is extremely rare).

Pre-Treatment Requirements:

  • Prime the skin with Vitamin C & Vitamin A for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment. Research has shown the use of Vitamin C & Vitamin A prior to and throughout the treatment will maximise the results of this skin rejuvenation procedure. The treatment will be more effective, your healing time will be reduced, and the risk of complications will be lessened.
  • Ensure you are applying a Broad-Spectrum SPF daily

  • Bleach, wax, scrub 1 week before the peel
  • Schedule any important event until 1 week after the peel
  • Apply retinoid (Vitamin A) 3 days before the peel
  • Have sun exposure to the area being treated

Post-Treatment Requirements:

For the first 72 hours following the treatment

(After the 72 hours you can then go back to your normal skin routine, but listen to your skin)

  • Treat the skin gently (stop using wash cloths and facial sponges as to not exfoliate the skin)
  • Where minimal makeup if required to wear it, mineral makeup is recommended. Check out our Young Blood range which is safe.
  • Use the recommended post treatment products only – Gentle cleanser, Hydr8 B5 serum (as many times as required throughout the day), Ultimate Recovery Intense Moisturiser (as many times as required throughout the day) & Physical Sunscreen.
  • Ensure you thoroughly sanitise all makeup brushes / sponges and change your pillowcase, so you are not at risk of infection and/or breakout.

  • Do not expose the skin to the sun or tanning devices
  • Don’t do excessive exercise as this could cause more dehydration in the skin
  • Do not use sauna, steam rooms or do hot yoga as it will sting the skin, cause more dehydration and potentially cause infection
  • Do not use AHAs, BHAs, topical steroids, retinol (Vitamin A) or physical exfoliants for 1 week
  • Do not use any cosmetic products that could irritate the skin

For 2 weeks post treatment:

Avoid further clinical treatments (including but not limited to): microdermabrasion, laser, intense pulse light and or chemical peels.

30 minutes prior to treatment a topical anaesthetic that has been compounded specifically for you is applied to the area. This will minimise any discomfort during the treatment. Most clients describe the feeling as a bit of pressure and a mild tingling feeling.

If you really have to, we highly recommend Young Blood which is an Australian owned mineral makeup to be used as your makeup for the first 72 hours post procedureThese products are specifically designed for use post treatment and will even out the skin and provide protection without causing a breakout. Please ensure you thoroughly sanitise all makeup brushes/ sponges before using them to apply any products after your treatment.

Treatments can be performed every 2- 4 weeks depending on the individual skin concerns being treated.

Skin Needling is unsuitable for Pregnant women.

If you struggle with hyperpigmentation, scarring, signs of aging, volume loss, breakouts, large pores and/or overall dull skin – Needling may be the ideal treatment for you.
