PEELS

At Bobbie Charles we offer a range of skin peels to assist with a wide range of concerns from fine lines, acne, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. The brands we love and trust are iS Clinical and Mesoestetic.

Our skilled therapists prioritize your skin health and ensure it’s never compromised for quick results. Each appointment includes a thorough consultation to determine the best peel option and treatment plan for you.

What is a Skin Peel?

As we get older, our skin doesn’t renew itself as quickly as it used to. This can lead to various skin problems. A skin peel is a treatment that helps with the below:

1. Removing old, damaged skin cells
2. Encouraging your skin to make new, healthy cells
3. Improving your skin’s overall appearance

How does it work?

Imagine your skin cells are like bricks held together by cement. A skin peel uses special ingredients to gently dissolve this “cement,” allowing the old, damaged “bricks” (skin cells) to fall away.

While the peel mainly works on the outer layer of your skin, it also has positive effects on the deeper layers. This means you’re not just getting surface-level results, but improvements that go skin-deep!

Results:

  • Reveals fresher, younger-looking skin underneath
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, mild scars and blemishes
  • Smoother skin texture and faded hyperpigmentation
  • Stimulates your skin to produce more collagen (a protein that keeps skin firm and youthful)
  • Boosts production of other substances that help your skin look plump and healthy

The result? A refreshed, renewed complexion that looks younger and feels smoother.

For a more intensive corrective effect on hyperpigmentation, ask our staff to see results from the Cosmelan peel, awarded the world’s most effective depigmentation treatment.

Potential Risks:

  • Cold sore flare ups; please use an anti-viral for minimum 3 days prior to your treatment if you are prone to cold sores.
  • Changes in skin colour; a peel can cause treated skin to become darker than normal (hyperpigmentation) or lighter than normal (hypopigmentation). Changes in skin colour are more common in people who have darker skin types and can be permanent. Ensure you are applying a broad-spectrum SPF daily, both before and after your peel to avoid this. We do recommend a Vitamin C and or brightening serum for clients that are prone to pigmentation throughout your treatment plan to avoid this.
  • Burns; this can be a result of not following strict pre-care instructions prior to your treatment.

Pre-Treatment Requirements:

  • Prime the skin with iS Clinical Active Serum or Brightening Complex for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment, as directed by your therapist. Research has shown the use of these products prior to and throughout the treatment will maximise results and reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Sheald recovery balm is crucial for post-peel skin care and should be purchased at the time of the peel treatment. It helps soothe and hydrate the skin, promoting healing and enhancing results.
  • Please use an antiviral if you are prone to cold sores for a minimum of 3 days prior to your treatment.
  • Do not bleach, wax, scrub/exfoliate for 1 week before the peel
  • It’s best you don’t schedule an important event until 10 days after the peel so you have time to heal.
  • Please discontinue all active skincare ingredients 1 week prior to treatment.
  • Ensure you don’t have sun exposure to the area being treated for 2 weeks prior to your peel and ensure you are applying a broad-spectrum SPF daily, even if it’s cloudy.

Post-Treatment Requirements:

The iS Clinical Prodigy Peel is self neutralising, for this reason it cannot be removed or wet for 6-8hours post application, when it can be washed off with iS Clinical Cleansing Complex

For the 7-10 days following the treatment, use the recommended post treatment products only:

AM:

iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, Sheald Recovery Balm and Extreme Protect

PM:

iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, Sheald Recovery Balm

  • Avoid self-tanning for 1-2 weeks post peel.
  • Do not expose the skin to the sun or tanning devices.
  • Treat your skin gently (no wash cloths or facial sponges as to not exfoliate the skin).
  • Do not pick or peel off any dry/flaking skin. Allow it to peel naturally as this could cause scarring.
  • Do not use AHAs, BHAs, topical steroids or physical exfoliants for 10 days following a chemical peel treatment.
  • After 7 – 10 days you can recommence your regular skincare routine
  • Ensure you thoroughly sanitise all makeup brushes/sponges and change your pillowcase, so you are not at risk of infection and/or breakout.
  • No excessive exercise, sauna, steam rooms or hot yoga for 24 hours as it will sting the skin, cause irritation and excessive dehydration.
  • Avoid make-up for a minimum of 12 hours post-peel. After the 12 hours, wear minimal makeup if required. Mineral makeup is recommended.

Expected Side Effects:

  • Redness post-treatment which normally subsides within 24 hours
  • Dry and potential flaking of the skin which may last up to 10 days dependent on the peel strength
  • Blotchy dark areas of the skin where pigmented areas are shedding which may last up to 10 days dependent on the peel strength

In general, light and medium peels cause some discomfort. The discomfort ranges from mild to moderate, depending on your level of tolerance. The most common sensation is stinging whilst the product is on.

Depending on the individual skin concerns being treated we will recommend a tailored treatment plan consisting of anywhere from 3-6 peels at a time followed by a 4-week break to let the skin heal and rejuvenate. During this rejuvenation period we may recommend other treatments to help reach your skin goals. Following the recommended ‘post treatment advice’, and using the recommended ‘at home skincare products’ between visits, will greatly assist you in seeing results faster.

At Bobbie Charles we offer an extensive range of both iS Clinical and Mesoestetic (Acnelan and Cosmelan) Skin Peels to assist with a wide range of skin concerns.

Skin Peels are unsuitable for clients that are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Depending on the individual skin concerns being treated we recommend treatments be performed at least two weeks apart.

We recommend having these treatments done separately as to avoid causing excess trauma to the skin.

To allow for sufficient healing time, we recommend leaving a minimum of one week between your skin peel appointment and your event to allow time for your skin to heal.

For the first 72 hours post treatment we highly recommend only using a light mineral makeup. We love Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics in the clinic. These products are specifically designed for use post treatment and will even out the skin and provide protection without causing a breakout. Please ensure you thoroughly sanitise all makeup brushes / sponges before using them to apply any products after your treatment.
