PDO THREADS

What Are PDO Threads?

PDO Threads are a minimally invasive and preventative anti-ageing cosmetic procedure to tighten, lift and rejuvenate the skin. These threads are made from a material called Polydioxanone (PDO) which is an absorbable polymer that is safe, flexible, and durable.

This advanced cosmetic procedure involves the insertion of these threads under the skin to provide an improvement of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. After entering the skin, the threads stimulate natural collagen synthesis, creating a gradual tightening effect for 6 – 12 months after your procedure.

Prior to your first treatment, our advanced Nurse Injector will need to consult with you to assess your suitability for PDO Threads and discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

Results:

PDO Threads can be used to tighten and define areas such as the neck, jawline, and cheeks, treat forehead lines and facial wrinkles, and even add volume to the cheeks.

Results are most noticeable after 8-12 weeks and can last up to 2 years, depending on the treatment area and number of threads. Over time, PDO Threads will naturally be absorbed by the body.

Every procedure involves a certain amount of risk, and it is important that you understand the risks involved. PDO Threads are a safe procedure and complications are extremely rare. Minor side effects may include:

  • Temporary redness
  • Bruising or swelling

  • Patients may feel slight tightness or a pulling sensation following the treatment, but this subsides relatively quickly.

Moderate side effects (All moderate complications require a practitioner review):

  • Infection
  • Herpes Simplex outbreak

  • Allergic reaction to polydioxanone (PDO) product (very rare)

Before your treatment:

  • Avoid blood-thinning and anti-inflammatory medication (e.g., aspirin ibuprofen, fish oil, and St John’s wort) one week prior.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol 24 hours prior.

Advise your practitioner if you:

  • Are regularly taking anti-coagulation therapy (e., Warfarin or Heparin).
  • Have a severe metabolic or systemic disorder.
  • Are using ibuprofen.
  • Have an auto-immune condition.
  • Had recent minor dental work (g., scale and clean).
  • Had/or plan to have any major dental work (e.g., root canal/crown/implant)
  • Have a long-haul flight booked within the next four weeks.
  • Had any recent skin treatments in the last two weeks, such as chemical peels or skin needling.

Post Treatment Care:

  • Keep the injection site clean.
  • Take antihistamines as required to reduce swelling.
  • Apply a cool compress to the site for ten minutes every hour, on the day of treatment, but do not apply ice directly.
  • Avoid facial treatments for two weeks.
  • Avoid excessive pressure or any ‘facing-down’ (e.g., massage) treatments for 24 hours.
  • Avoid excessive exercise and exposure to heat for the first 24 hours and until any swelling or redness has resolved.
  • Avoid lipsticks, AHA, retinols, vitamin C or oil-based makeup for 24 hours.
  • Avoid saunas for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid long-haul flights for 4 weeks.

There are several different types of thread that can be used. Which type will be recommended for you, depending on the areas that you are targeting with the treatment and the type of improvement you are hoping to achieve.

Some clients may experience bruising, itching and discomfort around the injected area, which is usually resolved within 7 days. Headaches may also occur within the first few days of treatment.

PDO thread lifts have a much lower risk of complications than facelift surgeries. There’s less risk of scarring, severe bruising, or bleeding when performed by a trained professional. Minor complications occur in 15 to 20 percent of procedures but are usually easily corrected.

Results are most visible after 8-12 weeks but generally develop over time as the PDO threads stimulate collagen production. Results last for 12 – 24 months as the threads naturally dissolve and are broken down by your body. Annual treatments are recommended for optimum results.

The number of treatments required to get the look you want depends on your face and your personal treatment plan. Your Health Practitioner will discuss with you the number of treatment sessions you need at your initial consultation.

There is minimal down time after PDO threads, and you can resume your normal routine. Every patient is unique, so be sure to discuss your plans with your Health Practitioner. Your Health Practitioner will advise you not to rub your face vigorously and to avoid sleeping on your side in the initial weeks following the procedure.

You’ll also be advised to avoid saunas for two weeks and high intensity workouts for the first 24 hours or so, until any swelling or redness has resolved.
